Home Grown Terror

http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0521/p06s04-duts.html

Four home grown Muslim terrorists tried to blow up synagogues and shoot down American military airplanes. There could be Islamic extremists right down the street from you right now. The terrorist movement does not function like they typical top down organization. The leader does not issue commands and the followers don't immediately rush out and do what he says following the manual.

Leaders in the movement issue general instructions. "America is the great Satan." "Americans must die." Then, people who support that ideology go to work and think about what they can do to forward the agenda of those that they idealize. These are particularly hard to fight against, because each small group of people operate independently and are not at all connected with each other.

Just like the man who shot a the two soldiers at the recruiting station. He was not connected to any particular organization. That makes these difficult to detect because they have no contacts with others of the same organization, since there is not organization as such, no members list. Home grown terror, it's here; that's what the SGT Says.

Just like the man who murdered the abortion doctor too. Remember, not all terrorists are Muslim.

Alex. 99.9% of terrorists ARE muslim. Labeling every murderer a terrorist takes away from the seriousness of terrorism and inspires our weak government to treat terrorists like criminals. Criminals diserve a trial. Terrorists diserve a bullet.

Anti-abortion protesters have murdered one doctor in the last five years. Every religious leader has spoken out against taking the law into your own hands and has said that killing abortion providers is murder.

Muslim terrorists are supported by many nation states, and by many of their religious leaders. Muslim terrorists murder people every day.

Just saying, the presence of one major threat can't blind us to the presence of other, lesser threats. We can't risk another McVeigh or Unabomber because we stopped thinking about non-Muslim terrorists.

They are not mutually exclusive. We have to work to prevent all crime and to catch all criminals. Some are a higher priority because they happen more frequently. Most of the techniques to prevent Muslim extremist terror will work to prevent all extremist terror.

The Unibomber killed three and injured 23 over a period of years and 16 mail bomb attacks. Not much patrol officers can do about mail bombs.

Radical Islamists kill about three a day or more all over the world.
