Suicidal Response

A few officers at my agency were dispatched to a report of a suicidal man at a supermarket.  They coordinated their response so everyone knew who was on the way to the location.  The on duty sergeant even notified dispatch he was on the way, since it was a potentially life threatening situation.

They asked for a police helicopter to respond because the suspect was not were the initial reports placed him.  Officers spread out and looked for the suspect.  They called for the paramedics to stand by in case they were needed for an injured party.

They eventually found the suspect a couple blocks away and he was physically fine.  They spoke to him for a while and determined he was in fact a danger to himself and the man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital.  A good job all the way around; that's what the SGT Says.

Attempted suicide should be a mandatory minimum 30 days in the looney bin.

In California they get an evaluation by a doctor and can be held up to 3 days until there is a hearing to keep them longer. Few people are kept even a day.
