Pointing Guns at People

If you have a suspect armed with a weapon, other than a gun, there may be other options to employ rather than having 17 officers pointing guns at the suspect.  Ask yourself, at what point is having more officers with guns unnecessary?

If three or four officers are on scene, pointing their guns at a suspect armed with a knife, and the suspect is in the open, will having three or four more officers make the situation more contained, more controlled, safer for the public?

Each of the bullets has to go somewhere and if you have a large number of officers on scene, if something bad happens do you need or want nine officers to fire their guns?  There may be occasions when you do, a suspect with a gun, holed up in a warehouse might be hard to hit and too dangerous to miss.  But a single person, in the open, armed with a knife, might not need nine officers to point guns at him; that's what the SGT Says.
