Officer Deaths

Since 1943 at least 100 police officers in the United States have been killed in the line of duty, every year.  Most are shot or die in automobile accidents.  Are you wearing your body armor and your seat belt every time you are in uniform or riding in a vehicle?

Many officers are drowned.  Can you swim?  Some are burned to death, or strangled, or die in aircraft crashes.  Not every officer on duty death is easily preventable.  Most of them are preventable and we need to do a better job of preventing those deaths that we can prevent.

Every agency should issue body armor to every officer on his first day in uniform.  Every officer should be wearing his seat belt every time the officer is in the car.  Officers need to know that wearing body armor and seat belts are expected; that's what the SGT Says.
