Police Unions

Police unions are a mixture of good and bad.  When they act like POLICE unions they are good.  When they act like police UNIONS, then they are bad.  I remember in recent years some police unions wanting raises in wages for their officers but the city said they had to pick between raises or layoffs.  The UNION picked lay offs.

The UNION always picks larger government and Democrats.  The POLICE often support the death penalty and concealed carry for civilians.  The UNION does not want to put police killers to death and does not want armed citizens.

I realize that even good cops can have a bad day, or an unbearable supervisor, or get in trouble over politics.  In those cases a POLICE union can be helpful.  Yet, police UNIONS have negotiated retirement pay that is unsustainable and four times what the average civilian worker gets.  Police need representation, but the union structure as it is now does not serve the interest to good cops or the public; that's what the SGT Says.
