Lies and Statistics

A newspaper says that the crime rates in Los Angeles are higher than reported by the police department because the police have been categorizing crimes into lessor categories.  By making the crimes seem to be less serious there is a false sense of safety in the city.

Crime statistics are used to justify gun control, police budgets, real estate prices, police deployments and many other things.  It is unethical to falsify police crime statistics.  These data points are important to many people.

It is even important to the police.  Less crime often means fewer officers.  No one is served by the false economy of false police crime reports.  Only the criminals and corrupt politicians benefit from that; that's what the SGT Says.
