Patrol Driving

When driving a patrol car there are always a few things to remember.  Unless you are taking a law enforcement action in compliance with the law and agency policy you should not exceed the speed limit.

Take your car keys and lock the vehicle if you are going to be away from the car.  Sometimes criminals do steal police cars, for transportation, escape, or to get the patrol rifle or shotgun.  Park the car in a safe an legal manner unless the tactical situation dictates otherwise.

Don't carry passengers in your car unless you have a legitimate reason to do so, and then only after you have notified dispatch.  Many agencies require that you report mileage and note the time of any transportation of civilians.  Make sure they wear their seat belts; that's what the SGT Says.
